Website SEO - what are the “NoFollow” and “DoFollow”
What is the fastest way to get your website indexed by the search engines, to get higher PR ranking, and to get on the first page of Google or the other search engines? The links of course! Other factors like the fresh content and visitors traffic are important too but what you need to understand is that the entire internet was built on website linking system and it is links which will improve your website’s position and eventually give you more customers. The same can work also against you - if you have links from banned websites, farm links websites or any other dodgy sites, you could be penalised by the search engines and loose your ranking or drop off the first page right to the end.
Basically there are two types of backlinks you can get from other websites – dofollow and nofollow. The names explain what they mean clearly – the dofollow links let the search engines crawlers to follow the link from one website to another, while nofollow links have a message encoded in the website program with instructions for the search engines not to follow the links. That’s why it is important to know if the websites or blogs allow dofollow links when you write your comments as nofollow links do not count towards your link count for search engines ranking.
It is all about the value of the backlink or link juice as it is often called, when search engines use their algorithms to calculate SERP (search engine result pages) or what Google calls its pagerank. The website where you enter your comment with a link to your site will give a small part of its link juice to you through that link. The more comments with links entered on the web page, the smaller the link juice value each will receive, some bloggers say that more than 100 links on a page will not give you any value. Also it is important where on a page your link is located – the top position or being the first link on the page is the most desirable. I read about some bloggers being fed up with spammers who visit their blogs at the beginning of each month to be first to comment on their new monthly article, this is because each of them wanted to be on the top of the comments list with their link right on the top.
The pagerank of the website you placed you link from is very important as well, the higher its PR the better link juice you receive from it. Some webmasters quote that one link from PR5 is worth 500 links from PR0’s. This is true however if search engines see that you only have high PR links they may not view them as natural links and penalise your website. So the best mixture of links is to have them coming from different PR ranking sites including a large number of PR0’s as well.
The main key factor to backlinks is however relevancy of incoming links – there will be a low link juice value of even PR5 link coming to your site from completely unrelated topic website – for example from cooking website to technical website. It would be of higher link juice value to your website to obtain links of lower PR’s related sites than higher PR’s of unrelated ones .
Deep linking is another factor you need to consider, it describes links going to all or most of other pages of your website instead of linking only to your main page. From this follows the linking of internal pages – as each web page has its own link juice value, it should be linked to one or few important pages of your website to give them their link juice. With some external link juice as well, each of your internal page will have increased value and be able to give even more link juice to your main web page. A note on the internal page linking – they all need to link back to some page, usually main page or few main pages and to avoid dangling or dead links which search engines do not like as they work in circular ways going from page to page and should not come to a dead end.
The search engines also look at the different sources of incoming links and how many are linked over period of time. The links obtained naturally over long period of time will vary and be sent from many different sources – such as blogs, forums, website directories, article directories, websites, Wordpress type blogs, Blogger type blogs,
So what can you do to obtain links? You can open free blogs and link them to your main site, you can buy more domain names and set up mirror websites which link to your main site with other free platforms like free blogs linked to them as well as they will give them some link juice and increase their value. This is the link wheel system I discussed in my other article which you may like to read as well. You also need to use social media like Twitter and Facebook and get links from each tweet you send promoting your site. You need to use bookmarking sites, every little bit helps to promote your site and obtain links from many different sources cheap webhosting.
If someone told you that internet marketing is easy and quick, it is not true reliable webhosting. It is a slow process of building your empire like any other business and those who succeed spend a lot of hours every day building it by researching products, building websites, learning how to code, building links and about every other trick in this trade. To get a new website on the top page of the search engines is estimated at least half a year of hard promotional and marketing work. Link building is very important part of it, it needs to look naturally otherwise your website may be penalised for it. Specially Google revisits its algorithms and changes them all the time to pick up the obvious spamming. Whatever you do, do not spam – everyone needs backlinks but when you enter your comment, give value to the blog owner who gives you the opportunity of taking some of blog’s juice value with you. |
